Say My Name Say My Name

So, I've decided to leave Thursday posts open to my every whim after this poll. Thanks everyone for your input, I really appreciate all the support and ideas. I have some great posts coming up, but I wanted to first start with something personal.

I thought my first post would be about your names and how you got them. Are you named after someone? Does your family have a theme? You know, all Bible names, all names starting with the same letter, do they rhyme?

My name is Kristen Lynn, but it was quite the argument among my parents. My Dad wanted to name me Wolf, regardless if I was a boy or girl (see his style here, you may understand a bit more). Wolf people! To this day, my Dad still thinks it's a "bitchin" name. Ayayayay I tell you.

My Mom stepped in (thankfully) and said, "Ummm, I'll figure it out myself, thanks". I was supposed to be Christian (as a girl's name), but my Mom didn't like C's in cursive and Christian looked funny with a K (Kristian, I'd have to agree ma)  and he  wanted my name to start with a K like my Dad's...so I got Kristen- the next best thing. The Lynn came because as the first born, my Mom wanted me to have the same initials as my Dad (awww, so sweet but lasts only until I change my name when I'm married, which is in the works).

My sister's name also starts with a K, but neither of us realized that it was a trend since there's just the two of us. We recently asked my Mom if her and Dad were to have more children would we all have names starting with K?  She laughed and said yes. Yep, we're one of those families and we didn't even know it.

So what's your name and how did you get it? What's your siblings names?

My name is Melinda Lee. they thought I was going to be a boy so they were going to name me Michael. when they were told a lil girl, it was between Rose and Melinda. My mom went with Melinda because of a soap character on Guiding light who was a "feisty blonde" (I was covered in blonde hair when I was born and I was a month early) It was originally going to be Melinda Sue but my Grandpa (thank GOD) made fun of it so it got changed to Lee. My Great Grandma's middle name :)

My brother is John Victor. My Dad is John Stanley and Grandpa Stanley John, so you can see where that came from but my Mom didn't want him to be a JR so Victor for her Dad (my other grandpa)'s first name.
I love when people have stories for how they were named :) good post!

OMG, your Dad's outfit is AWESOME! Thank gawd you are not a Wolf though. My Mom's dad wanted to name her Crest if she was a boy (before the toothpaste was ever popular) and Texas if she was a girl. Umm thank the Lord her name is Jennifer.

My Mom wanted to name me Brooke and my Dad wanted to name me Stephanie. Neither could agree on those 2 names so they stopped discussing it. One day they were at Luby's (classy) and one of the lady's name tags said "Lindsey" and my mom asked my Dad what he thought of it and he said he liked it. No other discussion was had. Then I was born premature, the dr asked if I had a name and my dad said yah, "Lindsey" and my mom was like uhhh ok. And Lee is a family middle name. My Grandma is Sandra Lee, my Aunt is Vicki Lee and I'm Lindsey Lee. My first born daughter will have the middle name lee.

Ok this was so long, but there you go! That's my story!

my mom wanted to name me priscilla, but since my sister was melissa, my grandma veto'ed it because then we would be "prissy and missy." funny enough, if you know me, i'm very prissy, so it would have fit perfectly, haha! so cheryl is after the model cheryl tiegs - i'll take it! :)

my name is jillian summer. my mom loooved the name jill for a girl and somehow ended up with jillian. i didn't have a middle name until i was out in the world, and i think my dad's step mom said something about summer (i am a july baby). anyway, everyone seemed to like it so there you have it. my dad preferred summer to jillian so i lived a life going by my middle name. which is so annoying. now that i'm married, i dropped jillian. my mom was sad!

I am Amanda Michelle, although the name my parents had in mind before I was born was Kate Lynne (my mom's middle name is Lynne). My mom says when I was born I just didn't look like a Kate Lynne (how you can tell with a newborn, I have no idea!) so they named me Amanda Michelle (Michelle is my aunt's name, but Amanda was just a popular name at the time). I like naming my own children a little bit out of the box (nothing too crazy but usually not in the top 100 or so). It was really annoying being Amanda #3 in my class so that is my reasoning for it!! :)

Ha ha! I love your name story. I'm so glad you Mom didn't let your Dad name you wolf!!
As you know, I have 6 siblings and all 7 of us name J names: Jason, Josh, Jessica, Jenny, Jack, Joni, and Jonathan.
I was given my name just because my mom liked it, no other reason. :)

You will evermore be Wolf to me. I'm named after my father (clearly), though he never ever calls me James - it's always "Yes, my reason for living?" or "JJ".

HAHHAHAHAH this makes me love your dad even more (of course i already had a style crush on him but thats another story!).

i was supposed to be named lindsay until the day i was born. the day i was born my mom was watching some mini series called the thornbirds and there was a girl named meggie in it. apparently my mom thought her newborn child reminded her of meggie in the series who slept with the catholic priest. hm...i think i was doomed from birth. my middle name was always goin to be catherine (family name) so it stuck.

my sisters are also named MCS with their names. so confusing to my poor old grandfather let me tell ya. he calls me "hey! whatever your name is!". :)

cool post girl! its so weird to look at how common yours and mine names are, but see a real story behind them!

I was named after my mums best friend in high school Selina and my middle name is kimberley which was my mums best friend when she grew up in the states, I don't really like my second name i think i will probably drop it when i get married. so then i can have my current last name Boullin which is pretty unusual and my OH also has an unusual name so i will probably end up with a ridiculously long surname and my future kids will resent me especially when they are learning to write their name at school ;)

also i am with Megan, i think the name Wolf is wicked cool!

Wolf would be an AWESOME name (not in real life, but it sounds cool).

I wasn't named after anyone. My dad just liked the name Rachel.

Frances @ It's Sew My Style said...

Wolf?! I'm so glad ur name is not Wolf!
My name is Frances Mia. My parents though I was going to be a boy and they were going to name me Frank the third (my dad is Frank). So, when they found out I was a girl, they named me the closest to Frank that they could get and that's Frances. My mom does advertising and the week before I was born she was doing an ad for Mia and Joe Michaels dance studio. She liked the name Mia so much that it became my middle name.

My older sister is Jamile and I have zero idea where that came from and why they didn't want to name her Frank instead.

My sister and I both have K names as well. I've never asked if the trend would continue if there were more of us. Now I'm curious!

Mandy @ In the Fashion Lane said...

Gah!! I LOVE this post!

I am Mandy Marie. Are you ready for a long comment? I may take stalker status from Megan ;)

I was supposed to be Amber Marie Christiansen but my cousin was born 3 months before me and was given that name (our dad's never talked about it. Weird). My Dad was given the honor of naming the girls and my mom the boys (there are 3 girls and 0 boys. Oops) He loved the Barry Manilow song, Mandy. Barry is the epitome of COOL ;) So they originally were going to name me Amanda Marie (its close to Amber) but my dad knew that they would always call me Mandy so why add letters to an already long name (Thanks Dad! I appreciate that). Marie is the middle name of every first born girl in the family for over 7 generations.

To make things even crazier my sister was to be named Ashley Ann but my cousin was born before her and was named that (again without discussion and same parents as Amber) SO my dad named her Carly Ann after Carly Simon. AND I named my baby sis Samantha after Sam on Who's the Boss (Dad was hell bent on Heidi. No comment). So we are all named after 80's icons.

Longest. Comment. EVER!!!

Ok, are you ready for this soon to be a long ass post?

My parents didn't want to know if I was a girl or a boy, but the doctors hinted that because of the rate of my heartbeats they said I was probably going to be a boy. So they kinda sorta prepared. They liked Eric (pretty close to Erin) and they also liked Michael Brandon. So when I came out they were like SURPRISE and my parents were like...we don't have a name! So, my mom was really into Irish names even though there is not one speck of Irish blood in our family. So they went with Erin. As for my middle name, my mom LOVED Lee but didn't like it spelled like that. One of her fave movies was Gone With the Wind and absolutely loved Vivian Leigh (Scarlett). My name is Erin Leigh because of that.

Years later (I was in my teens), my mom and I were watching E! True Hollywood Story about who else but Vivian Leigh. We come to find out that she was a manic depressive alcoholic. I was like, way to go mom. Hahahahahaha. I love my parents.

That's my story.

My name is Kerr Ann. People always think kerr is short for something but its not. Kerr was my great grandmothers maiden name on my moms side and my dads moms name is Mary Ann. After I was born she asked my dad if it was too late to change my name to Ann kerr! That side of my family has always called me Kerr Ann but everyone else in my family and my friends call me Kerr.
